2000 Chrysler Concorde Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2000 Chrysler Concorde?
A: The first step is to take the negative battery cable away from the ground stud on the shock tower and use a cable isolator to close off the stud. Pull as much of the power steering fluid into the siphon pump as you can so you won't have a big mess from hose removal. Release the pressure supply hose hook gently to remove it from the reservoir, afterwards, remove the return hose so fluid can drain away. First, plug the open nipple and wait until any fluid is no longer spilling; then, remove the hose from the pump and drain what's left. Removing the lock-nut at the front of the pulley letting the serpentine tensioner belt unwind, then unhook the belt from the pump pulley. With the pulley removed, reach through the holes in its face to loosen and take out the three mounting bolts of the pump. Slide the sleeve towards you by inserting a screwdriver between the pump and the sleeve until it is flush with the tensioner bracket's backwards end. Withdraw the power steering pump, reservoir and pulley unit as a group from the engine and place the vital components onto the new pump. During installation, set the pump in the bracket, insert the long bolt through the sleeve, tighten all bolts to a torque of 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) by hand and then only tighten the three bolts by a small amount. After fitting the drive belt to the pump pulley, tighten the lock-nut on the tensioner, then link the pressure hose to the pump and tighten the tube nut to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Put the return hose on the reservoir, so the clamp passes above the upset bead on the nipple and then put the battery ground cable back into place. Only add Mopar Power Steering Fluid or the same kind into the power steering system and follow the first operation instructions to top it up and bleed.
