2000 Dodge Avenger Thermostat Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain a Thermostat on 2000 Dodge Avenger?
A: You should first mark the radiator lower hose and the hose clamp before unclamping and disconnecting it. When installing the thermostat, always point the jiggle valve upward and don't allow any oil on the rubber ring. This will help ensure the rubber stays fixed and without scratches inside the housing. Carefully fit the lower hose of the radiator until it enters the projection on the water outlet or inlet, then put the matching marks together and clamp before putting on the nut and tightening the connection. When inspecting, confirm that the valve shuts properly at room temperature and check it for blemishes, damaged areas or rust. Remove any dust or dirt as it appears. Place the thermostat in hot water, stirring occasionally, to ensure that the valve opening temperature is 82°C (180°F) and that the full-opening temperature is 95°C (203°F) at 9 mm (0.35 inches). To get the lift, measure the height of the valve while it's fully closed and see how much higher it rises when it's fully open.
