How to Maintain the Axle Shaft on 248 and 267 RBI Axles on 2000 Dodge Ram 1500?

Before servicing an 248 or 267 RBI Axle, make sure the rear wheels are completely raised off the ground. Remove the bolts holding the flange onto the axle shaft tube and gently remove the shaft out of the tube. During installation, wipe the area of the flange where the gasket goes with an appropriate cleaner, put on a new flange gasket and slide the axle back through the tube. Once the spacers are in place, add the bolts and tighten them to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).
