2000 Dodge Ram 2500 A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Accumulator on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Before starting on the accumulator HVAC, take the time to disconnect the battery negative cable. Remove the refrigerant from the entire refrigerant system. Take out the low pressure cycling clutch switch from the accumulator. Remove the securing screw from the accumulator retaining band bolted to the support bracket on the dash panel, unhook the suction line line fitting from the accumulator and put plugs or tape over all visible refrigerant line fittings. You should then separate the refrigerant line where it connects to the evaporator outlet from the accumulator inlet and once more put plugs or tape over all exposed refrigerant line fittings. Processor the accumulator from its retaining band and transfer it outside the engine area. To install, simply return the accumulator to its position in the retaining band, take away the tape or plugs from the refrigeration line ends on the inlet and outlet of the accumulator and fit the accumulator inlet coupler to the evaporator outlet port. Apply 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.) when tightening the accumulator retaining band screw. Cut off the tape or plugs placed on the suction line and accumulator outlet and then attach the suction line refrigerant line coupler to the accumulator valve. Put the low pressure cycling clutch switch on the accumulator again, connect the battery negative cable, evacuate the refrigerant system and charge the complete system. Should the accumulator be changed, put in 60 ml (2 fl. oz.) of refrigerant oil that is suitable for the vehicle's compressor.
