  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Cigarette Lighter on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
    A: Before working on the auxiliary cigarette lighter, take out and isolate the negative battery cable. When using the cigarette lighter, take the knob and element out of the receptacle base or snip the protective cap off the base where it fits into the lighter. Look inside the receptacle base to find out where the rectangular retaining bosses that fit the instrument panel are positioned. Use an external snap ring plier which engages the tip with the retaining boss and gently squeezes to disengage it. While squeezing, use the pliers to pull the receptacle base away from the mount. After removing the gauge, move the receptacle base away from the instrument panel and disconnect the wire harness from the receptacle base. After removing the old mount, attach the newer mount at the instrument panel and put the connector back into its base slot. Press the splines on the receptacle base connector into the mount's grooves until the retaining bosses clip into place. At the end, replace the lighter knob and element or the protective cap and link the negative battery cable again.
