2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Belt on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: The drive belt service and repair instruction is based on the latest guidance; if the label in the engine compartment seems to differ, consider the label as being correct. Try not to use a belt tension gauge on cars that have automatic belt tensioners, because the automatic tensioner adjusts the belt tension on its own with or without power steering or air conditioning. First, join a socket/wrench to the pulley mounting bolt on the automatic tensioner and keep turning the assembly clockwise until the belt has no tension. The belt should be removed from the idler pulley first and then taken out of the car afterward. Be sure the belt for the water pump is placed properly; otherwise, the engine will overheat due to incorrect rotation caused by an incorrect belt length. Put the drive belt around every pulley on the drive except for the idler pulley. Use a socket/wrench to spin the automatic tensioner bolt clockwise on the pulley mount. First, put the belt on the idler pulley, reposition the tensioner so that the belt is taught and then remove the wrench to confirm the belt is correctly put in place on all pulleys. After that, look at the indexing marks on the belt.
