2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Clutch Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Clutch Master Cylinder on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Start the clutch master cylinder servicing by balancing the car on a car lift or jack stands. With the nuts off the studs, lift the slave cylinder out of position. Release the lower and upper dash panel by unclipping the plastic plastic clips securing the hydraulic line. Bring the car down and remove the cable linking the clutch pedal interlock switch to the engine. Take off the clip that holds the master cylinder to the clutch, slip the push rod past the pedal pin, examine the wear on the bushing inside and replace the entire clutch hydraulic linkage if needed. Fasten the cap on the clutch master cylinder reservoir to keep any leaks from emerging, then retrieve the nuts that hold the clutch master cylinder and the screws connecting the reservoir to the dash panel and then remove the master cylinder with the clutch cylinders, reservoir and connecting lines from the car. Before any installation, tighten the cap on the clutch fluid reservoir to make sure no fluid leaks out. Set up the cylinders, connecting lines and reservoir, placing them all in the engine compartment with the piece of the clutch hydraulic line against the dash panel. Place the clutch master cylinder into the dash panel and attach it there using nuts. Rub some light grease on the master cylinder bushing and fit the push rod onto the end of the clutch pedal pin, then keep it in place with the clip. Connect the clutch pedal position switch wires again, place the clutch fluid reservoir on the dash panel and tighten all screws to 5 Nm (40 inch lbs.) torque. Replace the plastic pieces that are holding the hydraulic line at the dash panel and tighten them. Put the vehicle on stands again and connect the slave cylinder, making certain the cap at the bottom of the rod is sitting in the release lever and secure it with 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.) of torque. After putting in a new clutch linkage, make sure the hydraulic line is hooked to the clutch slave cylinder. Once the machine is lowered, use the linkage a few times to see if it operates smoothly.
