2003 Chrysler 300M Drive Belt Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Drive Belt for the A/C Compressor on 2003 Chrysler 300M?
A: You need to take off the generator/power steering drive belt first so that you can access the air conditioning drive belt. Release the tensioner pulley lock nut and adjusting screw enough so that the belt can come off. Remove all unneeded objects from the pulley grooves and be sure there isn't any grease, oil or coolant there before you put on the drive belt. If the belt is worn, cords are loose or very shiny or if there are major cracks across the ribbed ridges, change the belt; only crackling across the ribbed ridges is acceptable, other parallel cracks are unacceptable. Poly-V Belts should never be treated with any belt dressing or restorer. When installing, use Special Tool 7198, Belt Tension Gauge, to ensure the correct tension on your accessory drive belts. Lay the air conditioning belt over the drive pulleys and tighten the belt by turning the tensioner adjusting bolt until it hits the right tension, then secure the pulley locking nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Afterwards, put in the new drive belt for the generator/power steering and set the tension to the manufacturer's requirements.
