2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the front disc brake pads on 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: For front disc brake pad servicing or repair, first lift and support the vehicle and then remove the front wheel and tire assemblies. After that, loosen the mounting bolts on the caliper and tilt the caliper bottom so it comes away from the adapter, without using the brake hose to lift the caliper. First, take out the inboard brake pad and then the outboard brake pad from the caliper adapter. Change out the top and bottom anti-rattle springs located on the caliper adapter. For assembly, push the pistons down into the caliper bore by holding the old brake pad between the C-clamp and the caliper piston. Carefully brush the caliper mounting adapter and anti-rattle springs clean, then properly grease the bolts and anti-rattle springs with either Mopar brake grease or Dow Corning 6807 grease. Fit the new anti-rattle springs, making sure they aren't interchangeable, then put the brake pads in parallel on the adapter. Cover the rotor by tilting the top of the caliper, then press down on the adapter using the bottom of the caliper. Secure the mounting bolts and tighten them to the value of 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.). Install the wheels and tires after reinstalling the brake calipers and use the brakes several times to make sure the brake components fit properly. Be sure to replenish the master cylinder master cylinder with fluid as the last step.
