2003 Dodge Sprinter 2500 Timing Chain Tensioner Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Timing Chain Tensioner on 2003 Dodge Sprinter 2500?
A: Before servicing the timing chain tensioner, first take off the negative battery cable. Rotatethe engine at the crankshaft alone, be sure not to turn it using the camshaft sprocket bolt or counterclockwise. Match the indications of the camshaft with those of the camshaft bearing cap, then place the number 1 piston at ignition TDC. Eliminate the intake air scoop, the accessory drive belt, the idler pulley that's above the generator and finally the timing chain tensioner. Make sure to clean both surfaces with the appropriate solvent before start installation. Put in the updated timing chain tensioner along with its gasket, tightening it to 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.), then fit the idler pulley and accessory drive belt and next install the intake air scoop. After reconnecting the negative battery cable, always move carefully around the engine when it's on, don't come into contact with any pulleys, belts or the fan and please do not wear clothing that could get caught. When the engine is started, examine it for any sign of leaks.
