How to Service the Cigarette Lighter on 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan?

Before servicing the Cigarette Lighter, detach and separate the battery negative cable. Press down on the retaining bosses which are circles around the lighter base and squeeze them with external snap ring pliers to pry the base off. You can remove the base at home by gently moving the pliers side to side to pull it out through the mounting ring. Remove the base wires and set the base apart and afterward remove and disconnect the light ring wire. When installing, slide the mounting ring over the instrument panel, push the wires through the ring and make sure the cap and ring are aligned with the 9 o'clock index tab against the key. While connecting the wires to the base, make sure the rib in the base is positioned at the 11 o'clock place so it fits in the groove on the ring. Push the base so it fits into the bezel, test that the lighter or element works and attach the 12-volt lighter cap.
