2004 Dodge Sprinter 3500 Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove and Replace a Driver Air Bag on 2004 Dodge Sprinter 3500?
A: When you need to change a defective or broken driver air bag, first make sure you disconnect and separate the battery negative cable and then wait two minutes while the system capacitor empties. Take out the screws from the night side of the wheel that tie the driver air bag to the horn switch armature. To reach the electrical connection in the air bag housing, first steer clear of the Clock Spring pigtail wires and remove the air bag away from the steering wheel. Pull or pry apart the Clock Spring driver air bag pigtail wire connector from the air bag inflator connector receptacle by holding its insulator. Uninstall the driver air bag from the steering wheel and if it was used in the accident, you'll need to replace the Clock Spring and the steering wheel too. To install the driver air bag, guide it close to the steering wheel and clip the Clock Spring driver air bag pigtail wire directly onto the inflator connector receptacle until a click is produced. Set the driver air bag carefully in the steering wheel and be sure the wires are not squeezed by it. Make sure the two screws go under the steering wheel. Tighten these screws to secure the driver air bag at 6 Nm (53 in. lbs.). Do not replace the battery negative cable until you've performed the supplemental restraint system verification test after servicing any of its parts.
