2005 Chrysler Crossfire Alternator Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix an Alternator on 2005 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: Start the service by taking out the negative cable from the battery and then dislodging the right inlet tube for the air filter. Take care, because the accessory drive belt tensioner pulley may spring back and cause harm if you aren't careful. The accessory drive belt can be removed from the generator pulley by pulling the tensioning pulley to the left and securing it with a pin or letting the belt go slowly once it has come off. After that, take out the upper and lower generator bolts (2 and 3) and put the generator aside to work on the generator harness connectors. Remove the top cover from the retaining nut (5) of the generator B+ cable and then take apart the generator B+ cable and connectors (4) at the back of the generator before you remove the whole generator (1). To install the generator, put the generator B+ cable through the opening of the retaining nut and the generator harness connector (4) and screw on the generator B+ cable retaining nut, tightening it to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Attach the plastic cover to the end of the B+ cable when it's fully exposed near the Y splitter, connect the generator, make sure it's properly inside the bracket and tighten the mounting bolts to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.). After installing all the pulleys, fit the accessory drive belt, the definitely the right side air inlet tube and lastly, reattach the negative battery terminal cable.
