  A: Compress the valve springs using Valve Spring Compressor Tool C-3422-D with adapter 8464 for servicing or repairing the valve after the cylinder head is removed. Removing the retaining locks lets you pull out the valve spring compressor slowly, then take out all the parts: the valve spring retainer, valve spring and valve seal from the stem. Burrs should be removed from the valve stem lock grooves before you take the valves out to prevent harming the guides and make sure every valve is identified so it goes back to its original place. Prior to inserting, lightly run clean engine oil along the valve stems and add them to the ports in the cylinder head. Have the valve spring seat installed on the cylinder head and while you're there, cover every valve stem with new valve seals as well as the valve guides. Following this, put in the valve springs and valve retainers.
