  A: Before you service the heater core on a vehicle with air bags, pull out the negative lead from the battery and wait for two minutes. Take out the HVAC housing and separate it enough to reach the heater core. If you find that your heater core insulator is twisted or torn, it needs to be changed. Ease out the heater core and insulator by lifting them from the lower half of the HVAC housing. Add the heater core into the bottom part of the HVAC housing, so the evaporator insulator is in place and join the housing back together. When you replace the heater core, first flush out the cooling system before putting in the HVAC housing.
