To service the alternator, disconnect the negative battery cable, do not force the belt over the pulley and make sure the serpentine belt is routed correctly to prevent overheating of the engine. Remove the serpentine belt, lift the vehicle and disconnect the generator by removing the protective cover, battery output cable and mounting bolts.
