Removing the propeller shaft and keeping marks on the yokes and propeller shaft will be needed for the next step in repairing the universal joint. Lift out the little clips that hold the bearing cap in place. Be sure not to clamp the slip yoke tube or propeller shaft tube in a vise; clamping the forged yoke part is safe, but not the pipes themselves. Press out the bearing caps by attaching a large socket to the open space and a small socket to the bearing cap. Then, use the vise to force the cap into the part of the socket receiver that fits it best.
