2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for a 2.4L Engine for Pressure Hose on 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: For the 2.4L engine, service and repair the power steering pressure hose away from the exhaust, driveshafts and any areas where they could become damaged. First, wipe the open end of the power steering hose and the pump port with a lint-free towel, replace any bad O-rings with fresh ones, then coat both new O-rings with power steering fluid. Secure the power steering pressure hose under the engine by beginning at its lowest point, directing the pump end away from the left of the A/C compressor and slotting it into the pump. Guide the mounting bolt through the routing bracket and carefully attach the pressure hose to the engine block and then secure the end of the pressure hose tube into the pump with a hand thread. Work with a crowfoot wrench on a long extension, while using a torque wrench, as you tighten the nut for the pressure hose tube at the power steering pump to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). Bolt the A/C compressor to the engine with the four bolts, set the tightness at 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) and join the A/C compressor wiring. Secure the drive belt, twist the plastic shield open to fit, into position and cover it with fasteners above the drive belt and the front suspension crossmember. After removing the nuts and bolts, reinstall them where the front fascia and wheel house splash shield meet the drive belt splash shield. Install the tire and wheel assembly and tighten the wheel mounting nuts to 135 Nm or 100 ft. lbs. The pressure hose and routing bracket mounting bolt should be tightened to 8 Nm (70 in. lbs.) first. Afterward, secure the hose and routing bracket to the structural collar and tighten the bolts on the collar to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Wash the ends of the open power steering hose and the power steering gear, change any old O-rings and rub them with power steering fluid. On LHD vehicles, set the power steering fluid pressure hose into the power steering gear port, making sure it doesn't touch any other vehicle parts and tighten the tube hose nut at the gear to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). RHD vehicles require the same process as LHD; align the pressure hose to SG, fix it with a tube nut and tighten it to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) at the gear. Drop the wheel, add power steering fluid and release it to check for leaks at all hose joints.
