2009 Dodge Journey Battery Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain Battery Cables on 2009 Dodge Journey?
A: Always use heavy-duty rubber gloves and safety glasses when servicing the battery cables, to stop battery acid from reaching your skin and prevent accidental arcs. Remove the negative battery cable from the remote battery and use the isolation hole to cut it off, isulating the negative terminal. Use a hoist to raise the car and eliminate the battery from its area. On diesel engine cars, remove the connection between the in-line connector and the instrument panel harness. Pull the vehicle down on the ramps and unfasten the remote terminal nut from the post of the negative battery. Lift the positive battery terminal cover, after which remove the starter harness positive cable retaining nut and unplug the positive cable from the remote battery post. Pull the remote positive battery terminal up from its holder by the strut tower on the left side. Diesel engine vehicles require you to remove the glow plug module connector, the cabin heater relay connectors and the in-line connector to the instrument panel harness. Remove the TIPM stud's retaining nut and the battery harness cable, then press the four clips to release the TIPM housing. Place it aside to reach the battery harness. Still attached to the harness, pull out those remaining push pins, fasteners and routing clips until it is completely free from the car. After that, disconnect the negative cable from the remote negative battery post and separate the negative battery harness cable. Remove the nut holding the negative cable on the starter harness and then pull the cable off the remote battery. Lift off the cover on the remote positive battery terminal, unscrew the starter harness nut and pull the cable off the battery post. Raise the car on a hoist once more, take off the negative harness bolt and disconnect the cable from the engine's negative terminal. Get rid of the nut retaining the positive cable of the starter harness and separate the cable from the starter's positive post. After that, locate and release the last of the starter harness pushpins, fasteners and routing clips by unwinding any remaining harness in the engine compartment.
