How to Safely Remove and Replace a Rear Brake Pad on 2009 Jeep Patriot?

Raise and support the vehicle before you try to remove and replace the brake pads at the rear. Take out the wheel mounting nuts and after that remove the tire and wheel assembly. Occasionally, you may need to pull the caliper piston back a little to provide enough space for the pads and rotor, making caliper removal easy; doing this by holding the caliper at the back and pulling while using the guide pins ensures you avoid pushing on the piston and harming it. After that, take out the disc brake caliper lower guide pin bolt. Do not force the rear brake caliper up, as it might damage or overstretch the flex hose. Give the caliper a small upward twist so you can take out the brake pads and fasten the caliper assembly into this position with a wire or a bungee cord. Take off the inboard brake pad from the adapter bracket and pull the retaining clip over the raised surface on the caliper to slide out the outboard brake pad.
