The CV Boot in Chrysler 300 vehicles is one of the on important parts of the car that is to protect the constant velocity (CV) joints. This flexible rubber or plastic boot has to maintain the appropriate amount of grease for the CV joints but at the same time it has to also be impervious to dust and dirt. Chrysler 300 models come with different CV jointers, the outer ends use Rzeppa joint while the inner ends use tripod or double offset joint. The outer joints move through a higher degree of joint angles while the inboard ones are used in establishing motion in changes to shaft length as used in suspension. It is recommended from the output that the CV Boot should be inspected frequently Sometimes the CV Boot may have some defects such as crack or tear and this affects the CV joint which in return affect the performance of the vehicle.

Chrysler 300 CV Boot Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a CV Boot on the Front Outer Constant Velocity Joint on Chrysler 300?
    A:
The service and repair of the front outer Constant Velocity Joint Boot require removing the large boot retaining clamp from the C/V joint housing and replacing it and then removing and discarding the small clamp that holds the outer C/V boot to the interconnecting shaft. Put a boot over the connecting rod and shaft, then wipe up the grease to reveal the outer C/V joint and interconnecting shaft. Put the shaft for the interconnecting rod, plus its protective caps, into a clamp to support it and hit the extreme end of the C/V housing sharply with a soft-faced hammer which will make the inner circlip pop out of place. Once you dislodge the connector from the shaft, slide the outer C/V joint free from the shaft; use some tapping if needed. Before you take care of the failed sealing boot, remove the big circlip from the interconnecting shaft. If there is visible wear on the outer C/V joint assembly or interconnecting joint, the driveshaft assembly must be taken out since the wear parts base are not serviceable. Slide the new seal boot over the interconnecting shaft, so that its raised bead inside fits into the groove on the shaft. Points the splines from the shaft to those on the cross and start putting the joint together by pushing the end onto the shaft. Lightly hit the end of the stub axle (with the nut set in place) with a soft-faced hammer to direct the C/V joint fully onto the center shaft, so it sits properly over the circlip. Take half of the grease from the seal boot package and oil the outer C/V joint assembly housing and use the remaining half to fill the sealing boot. Pull the new outer C/V joint rubber boot tightly onto the shaft clamp and secure it right next to the clamp edge with the C-4975-A crimping tool. After inserting the sealing boot into the proper spot on the outside of the C/V joint housing, fasten it to the retaining clamp and seal it in place with the Special Tool C-4975-A, screwing it closed until the clamp jaws meet.
