Chrysler Aspen Windshield Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Install a Windshield on Chrysler Aspen?
    A:
Always allow the urethane curing time of 24 hours before going back to using the car after the windshield installation. If you can, roll all the front door glass down and open the rear glass slider to help avoid pressurizing inside which may cause leaks. Clean off the majority of the old sealant on the windshield fence, but do not take it all off, as this would impact the paint as well as the success of any adhesion. Instead of old or broken support spacers on the perimeter of the glass, install new spare parts. If your windshield had been installed, make sure the bead of old adhesive is leveled and remove any extra or loose pieces. Two A-pillar spacers (4) go on, evenly spaced and the lower spacer assemblies (1) go in the holes, snapped into place with the flat side facing up. Set the windshield (1) centrally in the opening, resting on both side and lower spacers (2 & 3) and slide the lower spacers (3) to maintain the correct roof gap tolerance. Secure adhesive tape (1) to the car during installation, make sure the windshield gap is straight, clip the tape and remove the windshield. Make sure the glass (2) is clean and dry, use the proper solvent to do so and if the glass primer appears damaged, reapply to those spots. Paint primer (1) around the glass's edge so that it is 15 mm (0.5 in.) wide and let it dry in the air for 10 minutes. If your windshield is new, first add spacers (2) and lower spacer assemblies (1) beneath the front trim where indicated, then check for any damage to the windshield before setting it in the exact center of the opening. Place tape onto the edge, observe the space, trim the excess and clean the region you want to seal with glue. Brush primer over the surface that will be glued and around the edge of the glass before letting it air dry. Clean and vacuum the opening for the windshield, make sure the old adhesive is only as thick as 1 mm and clean the part you want to glue. Reprime any areas that need it and let the primer dry in the air. For installing your windshield, put a thin line of adhesive directly onto the edge of the glass seal as you slowly place the glass. They should be about 9.5 - 12.0 mm across the face (1) and 12.7 - 14.0 mm high (2). Set the windshield gently into the frame, following the tape as you press it down and try not to have anyone else help with pressing; this helps prevent the glass from breaking. Lastly, put on the cowl grille and rear view mirror.
