To work on the oil pan and oil pump, use a special removal tool to tap where the oil pan connects with the cylinder block and then slide it along to remove it. To ease reassembly, use a punch or point tool to make alignment dots on both the outer and inner rotors. To install, spread engine oil over the rotors and place the alignment dots correctly. Get rid of the sealant from the cylinder block and the oil pump, then put a 3 mm wide bead of sealant over the oil pump case and install the oil pan promptly, before it drys, within 15 minutes. During the sealant's curing, leave the covered area untouched by oil and coolant for at least one hour, coating it with sealant Mitsubishi Genuine Part No. Md970389 or its equivalent. Clean every gap around the cylinder and oil pan, add a narrow 4 mm sealant bead to the oil pan and quickly set the oil pan into position before the sealant dries out, putting oil pan bolts in the specified order. Once more, give the sealed part 1 hour without oil and coolant leaking into it; be careful the sealant doesn't get released from the flange area. Be sure to put the new drain plug gasket in position, as indicated in the instruction. For the
Oil Filter, first clean the bracket surface, cover the O-ring with engine oil and tighten the filter until the O-ring touches the bracket, finishing with a 3/4 turn to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.). Check the tip, side and body clearances in the oil pump; they should all be between the given tolerances, but no more than 0.35 mm.
