How to Safely Remove Coil Springs on Dodge Dakota?

Before taking out the coil spring, first raise the rear of the car using a jack or hoist and make sure that the lift is placed below the frame rail crossmember behind the rear axle to avoid bending the side rail flange. Lift the car over its frame and use a hydraulic jack to support the axle to take its weight off. After that, unbolt the wheel and tire from the axle, then remove the two nuts, the U-bolt and the spring plate as well. Remove the bolt and then get the flag nut by removing it through the opening in the bracket from the front eye of the spring. Take out the nut and bolt that connect the spring shackle to the frame on the rear of the vehicle. Next, unscrew the spring from the vehicle and take out the shackle from the spring.

How Are Front Coil Springs Installed on Dodge Dakota?

Before installing the coil spring, put the lower isolator in first and then the upper isolator. Place the shock into the coil spring and then mount the upper plate for the shock. Take shock nut wrench 9362 and place it over the shock shaft's retaining nut. Use a 8 mm socket by fitting it through the wrench on the hex at the end of the shock shaft. While blocking the shock shaft so it doesn't turn, tighten the nut to a torque of 45 Nm and 33 ft. lbs. After that, attach the upper mounting nut for the shock and decompress the spring. Take out the shock assembly from the spring compressor tool or its equivalent and then put it back in its proper place.
