Dodge Ram 1500 Van Fuel Pressure Regulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator located at the top of the fuel pump module on the fuel tank on Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
    A:
You can find the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator above the fuel pump in the fuel tank, so don't forget to let go of the fuel system pressure before servicing. The first step is to eliminate the fuel tank by taking out the fuel and then removing it. Keep the space around the filter/regulator clean so nothing gets into the pump module. The filter/regulator is pushed into a grommet and needs to be twisted and pulled away, but not more than three inches above the fuel pump module. Cut the old clamp off very gently so you don't damage the fuel tube and then remove and get rid of the old clamp. Slide down the plastic fuel tube and take out the filter/regulator from the fuel pump module. First, clamp the plastic fuel tube using a fresh clamp, then install the filter/regulator onto the fuel tube so that it faces the driver's side of where you are installing it. Use Hose Clamp Pliers number C-4124 to clamp the line and don't use conventional side cutters, as the clamp may be damaged. Fit the filter/regulator into the rubber grommet and place it so the driver's side edge is in front. After that, attach the fuel tank and look for possible fuel leaks.
  • Q: Where is the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator located and what are the steps for servicing it on Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
    A:
Above the pump in the fuel tank, you will find the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator. Release all of the pressure from the fuel system before doing any service. First, empty the fuel tank and take it off the vehicle. Purify the filter/regulator hub to keep bacteria from entering the pump connection. Before you remove the filter/regulator, make sure you're not pulling it further than three inches away from the fuel pump module. Cut the old clamp around the fuel tube gently, so you don't harm the plastic inside and then unclamp the fuel tube from the filter/regulator. While installing, fit a clamp to the plastic fuel pipe, add the regulator, then turn it so it's facing the driver's side of the car. Tighten the line clamp to the fuel line with Hose Clamp Pliers C-4124, instead of cutting the line with standard side cutters. Push the filter/regulator through the rubber grommet and verify it is fitted the right way. Once the fuel tank is in place, make sure you see no fuel leaks.
