For hassle-free alternator service or repairs, you should first disconnect the negative battery cable. Lift out the generator drive belt and take out the nut and bolt from the generator pivot to see the wire connectors. Loosen the B+ terminal mounting nut and take out the terminal at the rear part of the generator. Then, press on the connector tab and pull out the field wire connector, afterwards remove the entire generator from the vehicle. When installing, line up the generator with the engine and secure the field wire connector near the generator's back. Connect the B+ terminal to the stud on the generator and hand-tighten the mounting nut, making the torque 8.5 Nm (75 in. lbs.). Attach the fasteners to hold the generator and then secure them by tightening the generator mounting bolt to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) and the generator pivot bolt/nut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) Hand torque only should be used. Nonetheless, belts should never be installed by sticking a screwdriver through the rim of the pulley because this damages artificial fiber. Primarily, ensure the serpentine accessory drive belt is installed in the proper way to prevent overheating the engine as a result of having the water pump push water against the wrong direction. After that, connect the generator drive belt and resume the link of the negative battery cable.
