  The first step in repairing the electric cooling fan is to take out the negative battery cable. Take out the plastic air cleaner intake tube and the lower piece of the fan shroud. Turn the mounting nut controlling the thermal viscous fan drive or fan blade counterclockwise with the Snap-On 36 MM Fan Wrench (by tool number SP346 from the Snap-On Cummins Diesel Set number 2017DSP) and the further help of Spanner Wrench 6958 and Adapter Pins 8346. At this point, do not take out the fan blade assembly from the viscous fan drive. After you remove the thermal viscous fan drive, keep it upright to keep the silicone fluid from reaching the bearing assembly. After that, unscrew the bolts holding the fan blade assembly to the viscous fan drive. Fit the fan blade assembly onto the viscous fan drive and screw in each bolt to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.) of torque for installation. Afterward, connect the fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly to the water pump shaft, then the fan shroud and finally, the air cleaner intake tube. Make sure to connect the negative battery cable at the end. After installing the new viscous fan drive, take the engine speed up to 2000 rpm and leave it like that for about two minutes to ensure the fluid moves correctly.
