This information is sent to the engine control module (ECM), which in turn controls fuel injectors and ignition times for proper running of the vehicles' engines. Usually the Camshaft Position Sensor is placed above the camshaft, but depending on the model it could be behind the head or close to the block. Camshaft Position Sensors may vary over the years in Dodge Ram 3500 vehicles, and may work in conjunction with crank sensors so as to ensure perfect synchronization between the engine pistons and valves. This unit is welcome for engines with varying valve timing so that it relays the correct fuel injection timing. Camshaft Position Sensor is highly functional and even the slightest damage to it could easily result in major problems affecting the performance of the Dodge Ram 3500, making this the importance it holds in the overall performance of Dodge Ram 3500 cannot be underestimated.

Dodge Ram 3500 Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove the Camshaft Position Sensor Without Taking Out the Distributor on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
The Camshaft Position Sensor in the distributor can be taken out while leaving the distributor in place. Remove the air cleaner assembly first and disconnect the battery's negative cable. After that, open the distributor cap by unscrewing its screws and pull the Camshaft Position Sensor wiring harness away from the main engine wiring harness. Take off the distributor rotor from the shaft and take the Camshaft Position Sensor assembly out of the distributor housing. To install, set the Camshaft Position Sensor into the distributor and line up its notch with the one on the housing. Reattach the wires, put the rotor in place and fix the distributor cap with the screws. Following that, fit the air cleaner assembly back into place.
  • Q: How Is the Camshaft Position Sensor Installed on a 5.7L Engine on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
The first action is to remove any dirt or debris in the machined hole of the timing gear/chain cover. Now, insert sensor 2 into the timing gear/chain cover and move it back and forth, not twisting it so the O-ring isn't injured. Before tightening up the mounting bolt, ensure the sensor is level with the gear/chain cover, so as not to harm the mount for the sensor. Tighten bolt number 3 to up to 12 Nm (106 in.lbs.) and after that, link the electrical pipe to the sensor.
