Do not use the car until at least 24 hours have passed after applying urethane for the windshield installation. Slide down the front door glass on the left and right sides and open the slider door in the back, if you have one, so that you don't risk any leaks from pressurizing the passenger area during urethane curing. Clean the windshield fence to remove as much of the old bonding urethane as possible, leaving behind about 1 millimeter, since total removal might damage the paint and bonding power. If you are replacing an old windshield, make sure all of the old adhesive is smooth and one millimeter high before cleanup. Start by putting on the windshield seal at one corner of the windshield, then center the windshield over the hole, not using any lubricant. Secure the windshield in place by using tape, make sure the windshield gap is straight when installed, cut the tape and then take off the windshield. Clean the area of glass with an appropriate solvent, inspect the primer for any damage and rep prime any places where the primer has been damaged. If the adhesive is exposed for more than 12 hours, you must re-prime the whole surface and allow the primer to air dry for at least 10 minutes before continuing. When putting in a new windshield, clean it, look for damage, snap the seal onto the windshield edge, place the windshield in the center, tape the edges, ensure the gap is okay, cut off the tape and finish by removing the windshield. Make sure the surface you are going to glue is free of dirt and moisture, add primer to it and give it 10 minutes to air dry. Clean and vacuum the area, smooth out the old adhesive to 1 mm level, wipe the new re-glue area, cover any damage with new primer and let the primer air dry for no less than 10 minutes. To install, place glue in a triangular pattern on the edge of the windshield, starting at the windshield center and be sure to put the windshield on in fewer than 5 minutes. Work out the air bubbles and use the tape to steady the windshield as you lift it, pressing very firmly since the window can't be repositioned once set. Press the windshield only with one person to protect it from breaking. Install the rearview mirror, headliner and both wipers at the end.
