How to Install a Drive Shaft on Jeep Wrangler?

Before attaching the drive/propeller shaft, wipe off all the shaft bolts and secure the threads by applying Mopar(R) or an appropriate equivalent. Fit the axle and transfer case flanges together by applying enough pressure to the propeller shaft. Put the install marks from the transfer case flange and front shaft CV joint together. Put on both of the CV joint retainers and their bolts, then tighten them to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Then, place the installation markings on the front propeller shaft flange over those on the axle flange. Lastly, place and tighten the axle flange bolts to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.).

How to Remove and Replace a Drive Shaft on Jeep Wrangler?

To replace the drive/propeller shaft, make certain the vehicle is in neutral while it is lifted on the hoist. Include an installation reference line across the rear propeller shaft CV joint and the axle flange, together with a signal for the end of the propeller shaft axle, stating that the shaft fits either way. Cross the front propeller shaft CV joint and transmission/transfer case flange with an installation reference line as well as an indication for the propeller shaft transmission/transfer case flange. Then, get rid of the front propeller shaft CV joint bolts and retainers and later on, do the same with the rear shaft ones. Bolt the propeller shaft compression ring tightly enough to pull the shaft free of the axle flange and transfer case flange.

Fit the axle and transfer case flanges together by applying enough pressure to the propeller shaft. Put the install marks from the transfer case flange and front shaft CV joint together. Put on both of the CV joint retainers and their bolts, then tighten them to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Then, place the installation markings on the front propeller shaft flange over those on the axle flange. Lastly, place and tighten the axle flange bolts to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.).
