An Air Bag is an additional restraint device that is located in the steering wheel or dash, its primary purpose is to release gas within a few milliseconds to protect occupants in the event of an accident. Installation of a new Air Bag begins with disconnection of battery and waiting until the charge dissipates after which the trim panels, the steering wheel or parts of the dashboard are removed. Disconnect the SRS connector, undo the screws of the spent module, check on the wires and the clockspring. Lay the removed unit on a steady table in an upright position so that any burst of fire flies off safely, and ensure that your body does not come in its direction. Install the new Air Bag, fasten the harness lock, tighten the module to factory torque, reinstall trim, reinstall battery, clear codes and verify airbag light performs a normal self check.
