Ram Trunk Lid Latch is a tight-fitting locker mechanism on the cargo door. It has a spring-loaded hook that becomes hard and releases when you pull the handle. The frame remains fat but the optional air suspension lifts passengers out on any washboard path, uphill on the ruts, then lowers itself down the highway to avoid the wind and cut fuel. Four-wheel drive options are biting, steering is direct, and the entire rig remains cool despite many hours idle in the heat, which shows Ram is concerned with usable strength. To replace a worn-out Trunk Lid Latch, remove the pop-up trim panel, unclip the rod, and reverse three bolts of the old unit. Test the striker, then with fresh Trunk Lid Latch slide pieces in, finger-tighten bolts, reattach the rod, and screw them all the way in. Close the lid carefully, position the lid, tap-tap until the Trunk Lid Latch clicks, reattach the trim, and slam it once.
