2000 Dodge Durango Brake Pad Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair Brake Pads on 2000 Dodge Durango?
A: Clean the reservoir and the master cylinder cover, detach the reservoir top and drain just over a quarter of the brake fluid with a suction gun. Raise the vehicle and then take away the front wheel and tire assemblies. Take a large C-clamp, place the clamp frame where the clamp screw belongs on the outside rear of the caliper and tighten the clamp around each caliper piston in the bore. Loosen the caliper spring with a screwdriver, lift it out of the caliper holes and remove the brake shoes with the caliper slide pins. For the outboard brake shoe, pull one end of the detent spring away from the caliper, lift up the brake shoe and turn it to remove it. To remove the inboard shoe, tip it outside the brake until the retainer spring gets away from the piston, then use wire to support the caliper by wrapping it round a suspension component. When putting the adapter slide, brush the adapter ledges with a wire brush, apply little high-temperature grease and install new slide pin bushings if the old ones are worn out. Setup the inboard shoe, be certain the retainer spring is sitting in the caliper piston and after that place the outboard shoe in and confirm the other retainer spring is also installed in the caliper. Set the caliper and brake shoes over the rotor, then insert them into the adapter and tighten the slide pins to 30 Nm after getting the pins started manually to prevent them from crossing. Insert the spring into one caliper hole and under the adapter, hold it there by pulling down and sit the spring into the opposite hole by using the screwdriver to push it up slowly from below. Put the last wheel and tire on, lower the vehicle, press the brake pedal to seat the brake shoes, top up the brake fluid reservoir, ensure the brakes are solid and move the vehicle.
