2000 Dodge Durango Brake Line Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Service and Repair a Brake Line on 2000 Dodge Durango?
A: In brake service and repair, use a preformed metal brake tube and, if the factory parts are not available, install a double-wall steel tube just for emergencies. To stop metal brake tubes from kinking or twisting, special tools are necessary and to make a double inverted flare or ISO flare, specific flaring tools are required. First, trim off the neglected pipe with a Tubing Cutter and file the cut areas to guarantee a correct flare. Fit a new replacement tube nut onto the straight tube, put the tube into the flaring tool and put the gauge form over it. Insert the tubing into the flaring tool up until it reaches its recessed notch that matches your tube diameter and tighten the bar on the tube. Put the plug of the gauge into the tube, turn the compression disc to cover the gauge and set the tapered flaring screw into the center of the disc. Clamp the plug gauge down onto the tool jaws by turning the handle next to it. After that, use the tool to finish the inverted flare. Snap-On Flaring Tool TFM-428 should be used or an equivalent is required for ISO flaring. Snip off the dented area with a Tubing Cutter, clean up any burs on the inside and attach the tube nut to the tube. Place the tube into the flaring tool so the last piece of the end aligns with the last part on the tool bar and tighten the tool bar down. Attach the right size adaptor to the flaring tool yoke screw, grease it, ensure it is lined up at the yoke screw end of the tube and turn the yoke screw until the adaptor is firmly on the tool bar.
