2000 Dodge Grand Caravan Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Filter on 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Before starting the repair, lift the vehicle, put a drainbox with a wide opening underneath the oil pan of the transaxle and read the instructions for your car's model. After loosening the bolts, strike one corner of the pan to release it, so the fluid can drain before pulling off the oil pan. After that, unscrew the oil filter-to-valve body bolts and remove the filter and gasket. Set up a new filter and gasket after that and also ensure you clean the oil pan and magnet. Rebolt the pan using Mopar Silicone Adhesive and tighten each bolt on the pan to 19 Nm (165 in. lbs.). Put four quarts of Mopar ATF+3 (Automatic Transmission Fluid) Type 7176 into the dipstick opening. Turn on the engine and drive it for a minute before shifting the selector to all positions, then stopping at park or neutral. Look at your dipstick to find out the current transaxle fluid level and add more to make the level at least 3 mm (1/8 inch) lower than the "ADD" mark. After the transaxle has reached its operating temperature (180 °F), check the fluid again. Insert the dipstick all the way into its opening to keep debris from reaching the transaxle.
