How to Service an Axle Shaft on 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan?

Raise the vehicle on a hoist, so the wheels are suspended, take off the rear wheel and perform the service on the axle shaft. After that, get rid of the cotter pin, nut lock and spring washer and then come the hub nut and washer. Be sure to install a bolt through the hub and torque it before putting the vehicle on the axle wheels, since the C.V. joint holds the hub/bearing in place. When you have finished, take out the inner half shaft retaining bolts. As the half shaft is spring loaded, first kneel on the inside of the shaft and gently press downward to compress the joint; then pull the shaft halves outward to remove it. Installation is just the reverse of how you uninstalled it.
