  • Q: How to Ensure Proper Installation and Alignment When Servicing a Muffler on 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan?
    A: During exhaust service, lift the vehicle safely on a hoist and apply penetrating oil to remove the flex-joint assembly bolts. Take care not to harm the bellows of the flex-joint or it might lead to failure and you'll have to change the catalytic converter. Relax the clamps and supports so that items line up successfully as you assemble. Reach underneath the back of your car to lift the vehicle so some space is created between the pipe and rear axle components. Clean both ends of the pipes or muffler carefully and remove any damaged or old insulators, rusted clamps, supports and attaching pieces using correct replacements to help proper fit, acceptable noise and to maintain the emission level and car performance. During installation, put the pipes, muffler support and clamp together and leave them loose to allow for alignment. Work your way towards the front of the vehicle, putting each component in place by clamping it and only once aligned and spaced out properly, tighten the clamp and support properly.
