2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Release Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Release Bearing on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: Start by removing the transmission and transfer case, if necessary and only then remove the clutch housing under the NV4500. Pull the release fork away from the boat and remove the bearing. Inspect the transmission front bearing retainer and check the bearing slide surface. If it's scored, worn or cracked, replace the retainer. Make sure the stud inside the fork is in good shape and check that it is not loose by monitoring the release lever. If the fork spring clips are misshapen, change them as necessary. Use Mopar high temperature bearing grease to coat the splines on the input shaft, the retainer slide on the bearing, the pivot ball stud on the lever and the pivot surface on the release lever. Attach the release bearing and release fork, guaranteeing they are held together by spring clips and that the fork is in the right place, so the top edge on the fork's rear faces the slave cylinder in the transmission. After that, set the clutch housing back into place if removed and put the transmission and transfer case in if they are part of the system.
