Dodge Ram 2500 Release Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Release Bearing on Dodge Ram 2500?
    A:
The clutch release bearing needs to be serviced or repaired by removing the transmission and transfer case if you have one. Remove the snap (6) and dislocate the release bearing (4) from the release lever (3) next. If the front bearing retainer's slide surface has scratches, is warn away or has cracks, replace the retainer. Make sure the release lever and pivot stud are in good shape and that the stud is held securely and check each fork spring clip for damage or bending-replace any bent ones. Run high temperature Mopar bearing grease on the input shaft splines, the surface of the bearing retainer where it slides, ball stud (1) on the lever pivot and release lever pivot. Make sure the release fork and bearing are both anchored with spring clips and that the release lever is in the right place, with the raised portion on its rear side facing the slave cylinder side on the transmission. Once that is completed, set aside the clutch housing if you removed it and reattach it last, while the transmission and transfer case go on right after that.
  • Q: How to install a Release Bearing on Dodge Ram 2500?
    A:
Before fitting the Clutch Release Bearing, take a look at the bearing slide's surface on the transmission front bearing retainer and change the retainer if the surface is worn, cracked or scored. In the next step, verify that both the pivot stud and release lever are secure and undamaged; whenever the fork spring clips are rusted or broken, replace them. Coat the input shaft splines, bearing retainer slide, pivot stud and release lever pivot with Mopar high temperature bearing grease. Now, attach the release fork and release bearing, making certain they are held in place by the spring clips and that the raised edge on the lever's rear is near the slave cylinder side of the transmission. After everything is finished, put in the transmission and transfer case.
