2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Van Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Van?
A: Be sure to loosen the drive belt and move it off the tensioner pulley after turning the tensioner in a clockwise direction, because the tensioner load is high. Then, take the hoses off the pump and seal the fittings once you have finished with the reservoir. After releasing the bracket bolts, remove the whole pump assembly; then, detach the pump pulley. After that, remove the pump bracket. Attach the pump bracket to the pump and tighten all bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) for 3.9L & 5.2L engines or 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) for the 5.9L engine, when installing. Attach the pump pulley, put the pump assembly over the engine and tighten the bolts so they have 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) of torque. Attach the hoses to the pump and ensure they are tightened down to 35 Nm or 25 ft. lbs. After everything else, place the serpentine belt back in position and fill the pump reservoir with just power steering fluid and then operate the steering pump for the first time.
