2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Van Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair a wheel bearing on 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Van?
A: First, lift the vehicle and hold it up, then take out the wheel and tire assembly. After brake replacement, the caliper, dust cap, cotter pin, nut lock and lastly the nut and washer from inside the spindle should be removed. Carefully take out the hub/rotor while making sure that the wheel's bearing and seal do not touch the threads of the spindle. With the hub/rotor apart, take out the seal and remove both bearings by using a pin punch. Use the right size driver tool to fit the new bearing cups and spread Mopar Wheel Bearing Grease onto the inside part of the hub. Make sure to oil and clean your wheel bearings, first install the inner one and attach the new bearing seal. Check the bearing and seal areas on the spindle and if you find burrs or roughness, clean them up and add lubricant. Put the hub/rotor on the spindle and next, set the outer wheel bearing, washer and retaining nut in place. After turning the nut to about 41 - 54 Nm (30 - 40 ft. lbs.), start rotating the hub/rotor to press the bearing; then stop spinning the hub/rotor and lower the nut to free the bearing. Turn the nut on single finger tight, slide the nut lock and fix a new cotter pin. It is best for the end play to range between 0.025 mm and 0.076 mm (Or 0.001 inch and 0.003 inch). Brush off the dust cap, add a lubricant on the inside of the cassette and attach the cap. Next, place the disc brake caliper, assemble the wheel and tire and bring the car down.
