2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Parking Brake Cable on 2000 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: The rear parking brake cable should be serviced or repaired by unlocking the parking brake, lifting the car and supporting it on ramps or a jack stand. Ease off the cable adjuster's nut before pulling the rear cables out of the tensioner bracket. Get rid of the right rear cable O-ring and draw the cable out of the bracket. Push down on the tabs beneath the left cable entry with a 1/2 inch boxed end wrench and pull the cable into the frame bracket. Guide the right rear cable out of the brake hose bracket, take the cable retainers off the axle and put the pieces aside. Removal of the rear wheels, brake drums and cutting each cable from the park brake lever follows. Push down on the cable tabs at the brake support plate and remove the cables from the fitting. Install the cable guide spring and the brake drums first when setting up the caliper. With the cable pulled back, insert it into the support plate opening so it engages the park brake lever. Pull the brake support plate toward you as you push the cable housing through the hole. The tab should then lock and you should check that it isn't coming off easily by pulling gently on the cable housing. Put the proper cable on the axle and thread it from the brake hose bracket hole into the cable tube. Insert the end of each cable through the bracket, making sure the connection tabs on the left cable are secure and slide the O-ring onto the right cable, since the right cable goes in the top hole and the left cable in the bottom hole. Attach the cables to the cable tensioner bracket and into the cable connectors, after that, put back the tires and wheels. After that, perform the park brake adjustment process, take off the supports and bring down the vehicle.
