2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2000 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: When servicing the pump, drain and let the coolant depressurize first before removing the water pump coolant tube. Remove the serpentine drive belt and the hoses from the power steering pump, then cover any exposed ends with caps after removal. Remove the battery ground wire and take out the stud in the cylinder head, leaving it in place in the bracket. Remove both bolts holding the lower bracket to the engine block and free the upper bracket bolt as well. Turn the pump assembly past the coolant tube and take out the upper stud and upper bolt from the cylinder head. Remove the steering pump and bracket as one group, then use Puller C-4333 to take out the pump pulley so you can get to the bolts on the pump. Remove the front pump bracket and for engines with 8.0L, take out the rear pump bracket as well. Install the bracket for the front pump at first, tightening the bolts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). For the 8.0L, put in the rear pump bracket and tighten the nut to 47 Nm and the bolts to 24 Nm. After that, place the pump pulley with the help of Installer C-4063-B and bolt the steering pump to the block at the upper stud and bolt in the bracket. Position the pump so the discharge direction is past the coolant tube and screw in the lower bolts, tightening as you tighten the nut to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). After reconnecting the hoses to the pump and installing the serpentine drive belt, put in power steering fluid and turn on the pump for the first time.
