2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Van Ball Joint Parts and Q&A
- Q: How to service and repair the lower ball joint on 2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Van?A: When servicing or repairing the lower ball joint, you should raise and support the vehicle then remove the front wheel and tire assembly. After that, take out the disc brake caliper and rotor from the steering knuckle and detach the shock absorber and strut bar. To use Spring Compressor DD-1278, slide it through the lower suspension arm, the coil spring and the hole in the frame where the shock fits, so the bell adapter is by the lower arm. Seat the bell-shaped adapter against the top of the steering knuckle, tighten the bottom tool nut against it with just your fingers, then loosen it by 1/2 turn to hold the spring in place while separating the lower suspension arm from the steering knuckle. Get rid of cotter pins and removal nuts from the ball joints and place Ball Joint Remover C-3564-A on top to start pushing. Bang the steering knuckle sharply with a hammer and the ball joint should come loose without pushing on it with the tool. Take out the ball joint seal and use Remover/Installer C-4212F to push the ball joint up from the hole in the lower suspension arm. Open the lower suspension arm and place the ball joint there with Remover/Installer C-4212F, then slide the new seal onto the ball and get it in position with a socket. Gently set the lower ball joint into the steering knuckle,place the retaining nut and use the given tightening torque. Put in fresh cotter pins, secure the strut bar, pull out the spring compressor tool and click in the shock absorber. First, mount the wheel and tire assembly, then bring the vehicle down on the ground after reattaching the rotor and disc brake caliper.
