2000 Dodge Viper Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Catalytic Converter on 2000 Dodge Viper?
A: Before servicing or repairing the catalytic converter, first lift the vehicle on a hoist and take off the side sill panel. When removing screw caps, apply some penetrating oil to the band clamps. These three, catalytic converter, resonator/intermediate pipe and muffler, are individual parts of the exhaust system. Twist the V-Band clamp at the exhaust manifold flange so it falls off and discard it, because it must not be reused. Unclip the front support isolator on the exhaust pipe from the converter and undo the band clamp at the rear before you lift off the catalytic converter assembly. If any part of the exhaust system needs to be changed, always use original equipment parts for proper alignment, reduced noise and to maintain the system's emissions and performance. Remember to connect the converter to the resonator or intermediate pipe and hold off on tightening the band clamp for alignment. Join the exhaust manifold to the converter pipe with a V-Band clamp, then tighten it to a torque of 11 Nm (or 100 inch lbs.). Place the first three pieces on the exhaust at the front and line them up so nothing touches the car body. Secure the exhaust system support with 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.) and the band clamp with 70 Nm (55 ft. lbs.). Now, fit the side sill panel and lower the car when you finish.
