Dodge Viper Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Catalytic Converter and Ensure Proper Alignment and Clearance in the Exhaust System on Dodge Viper?
    A:
With the converter in the mounting spot, link the resonator to the converter so they line up. Don't tighten the resonator clamp at this point. Install the replacement V-Band clamp loosely on the connection between the Exhaust Manifold and the converter pipe, also adding both support isolators to the "A" and "B" pillars. Clamp the catalytic converter with 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) torque and adjust the position of all parts at the front of the exhaust system so they don't touch any body parts. After that, tighten both "A" and "B" pillar support isolators to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) and install a new resonator band clamp, improving the tightness to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.). Plug the downstream oxygen sensor connector, put on the sill panel and bring the vehicle down. Engine starting allows you to look for exhaust leaks, repair them and also check for parts of the exhaust system touching the body panels before making any needed fixes.
  • Q: How to Safely Remove a Catalytic Converter on Dodge Viper?
    A:
Start by lifting the vehicle on a hoist and then take out the sill panel. Spray some penetrating oil on both the catalytic converter V-Band clamp and the resonator band clamp and after that disconnect the downstream oxygen sensor connector. Because you should not reuse the V-Band clamp, loosen and take it out from the exhaust manifold flange and throw it away. After that, take out the "A" pillar support isolator and the "B" pillar support isolator. Remove the band clamp from the resonator and use it only once, before getting rid of them both.
