2000 Jeep Cherokee Coil Springs Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Repair Coil Springs on 2000 Jeep Cherokee?
A: For service and repair of the coil spring and jounce bumper, you must first raise and lift the vehicle, making sure to support it below the axle with a hydraulic jack. Get the wheel and tire assemblies out and cut the axle away from the front propeller shaft. After that, take out the lower suspension arms mounting nuts and bolts from the axle, along with the stabilizer bar link and shock absorber. Release the track bar from the rail bracket mount and take off the drag link from the pitman arm. Let the axle down until the spring clears the upper mount, then take out the coil spring clip and then the spring, followed by pulling the jounce bumper from its bracket. To install the bumper, put it into the mount, set the coil spring on the axle pad, add the spring clip and bolt and tighten the bolt to 21 Nm (16 ft. lbs.). Put the axle up to its highest point, with the spring sitting in the upper mount, then attach the stabilizer bar links and shock absorbers to the axle bracket and install the track bar on the body rail bracket. Put the lower suspension arms on the axle and line up the bolts, leaving them finger tight, then mount the front propeller shaft to the axle. Fix the wheels and tires back onto the car, take away the floor jack supports and send the vehicle down. Tightening the nuts on the lower suspension arms should equal 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.).
