2000 Jeep Cherokee Pitman Arm Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Maintain a Pitman Arm on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee?
A: To service the Pitman Arm, first get rid of the cotter pin and nut attached to the drag link on the pitman arm and next use a puller to remove the link ball stud from the pitman arm. Remove the nut and washer off the steering gear shaft next, mark the pitman shaft and pitman arm and use Puller C-4150-A to remove the pitman arm. To set up the pitman arm, put it on the steering gear shaft, then add the washer and turn the nut until you reach 251 Nm or 185 ft. lbs. After that, attach the other end of the drag link ball stud to the pitman arm, fasten with a nut, turn the nut until it's tightened to 74 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) and secure it with a new cotter pin.
