- Q: How to Service and Repair a Front Door Handle on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee?A: Before doing any service or repairs on the exterior front door handle, lift the glass pane to the top and take out the glass run channel. To take apart the driver's door, pull the lock cylinder out of the latch rod and after that, disconnect the outside handle from the rod as well. Unfasten the handles screws and take off the handle from the outside. If there is an anti-theft harness, cut the wire, then take the outside handle off the car. Put the door handle into place outside and plug in the anti-theft harness connector if there is one. Move the handle all the way in front to the back of the door and fix the nuts holding the exterior handle to the door, tightening them to 6 N.m (55 in. lbs.). For the driver's door, fasten the screws that hold the key cylinder bracket and tighten by hand until 6 N.m (55 in. lbs.). Connect the handle on the outside to the latch and connect the lock cylinder for the driver's door to the latch rod after which, install the glass run channel.
