2001 Chrysler Concorde Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Drive Belt on 2001 Chrysler Concorde?
A: Start by getting rid of the generator/power steering belt to open the area where the A/C belt is located. Relax the tensioner locking bolt and pivot bolt so they can be wiggled without removal. To remove the A/C belt, use a 1/2" breaker bar in the square hole of the belt tensioner to rotate it backward, then rotate the tensioner in the same direction slowly so the spring releases tension. To take off the generator/power steering belt, free the tensioner pulley locking nut and the belt adjusting bolt first. When installing the belt of your A/C, check that the torsion spring is in place; if not, move it into position. Using a 1/2" drive breaker bar, apply counterclockwise force on the tensioner while loosening the locking bolt and afterwards carefully release the spring taken off pressure. Taking the pivot bolt, tensioner and spring from the front timing cover, secure the spring arm into the proper position, replace the torsion spring, tensioner and pivot bolt except for tightening it for now. While you twist the breaker bar in a counterclockwise direction, set the locking bolt and then rotate the tensioner counterclockwise to ease the new belt onto the pulleys. Free up the tensioner, remove the breaker bar and the belt will automatically adjust with help from the torsion spring. Afterward, lock the tensioner bolts and the pivot bolt at 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) and get the generator/power steering belt back onto the pulley. On an A/C belt that has traveled at least 500 miles, first adjust the strength of the tensioner spring to the level used for a worn belt and then put the belt in place. First, set the generator/power steering belt onto the pulleys, then tighten the belt adjusting bolt to make sure you have the proper tension and then secure everything by tightening the tensioner locking nut.
